A simple quest to visit your sick Nana soon becomes dangerous after you download the sinister ‘Global Citizen’ app in order to cross between restricted city sectors. Friends, AI government officials and techno-hacktivists wrestle for control of your device and your focus as you navigate through a perilous series of choices to decide your fate.

The project harnesses the facial detection technology available in all smart devices and uses machine learning to create a new type of narrative experience. Immersing yourself in a world of surveillance and algorithmic bias masquerading as smart technologies, you will consciously and subconsciously impact the story as your facial reactions are tracked by the device.

Consensus Gentium encourages debate about data privacy, algorithmic bias and aims to make you more conscious of your subconscious behaviours - to take control over your data and ultimately your life. The project has been developed in consultation with computer scientists, techno activists and neuroscientists to create a world that is more science fact than science fiction.
